Faced with the results of their actions, this scene shows our three angels in the realities they have chosen. The scene opens with Larus ’s nightmare: he is being strangled while he sleeps, and as the murderer raises his knife to complete the job, he realizes the one who states “you’re doomed“ is himself. We switch to Raina’s office, where she and Atlan take great care in putting things back together after the earthquake: they are preparing for a very special visit. Next we see Cadan’s anointing ceremony: he has received a promotion to Guardian, and the pronunciation “well done“ has major significance. His anointing oil is juxtaposed with the blood we see dripping from Larus as he looks in the mirror. Cadan examines his piece from the star he and Larus visited; his brother is not forgotten. Their changed relationship, however, is soon shown. As Larus watches from a distance, he observes Cadan in his new role, working as a Guardian. Cadan looks up, notices him, and feels compelled to step protectively in front of his new young charge. Larus can ’t take it anymore. He takes off at a run, and then flies into space, screaming with rage. As the song “Amazing Grace“ builds to a finale, Raina and Atlan beam with joy, ready for the Prince. Larus crashes into a sun, and we see his piece from the star go out. There is a time for everything.

The Record Keeper is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
